Been a while since i posted a topic here. But this post is worth starting again. The anime Guilty Crown has been speculated for a while now to be the new anime flagship series of 2011 season. Based off the fact that it has gone up against Stiens Gate, Deadman Wonderland, Blue Exorcist, Sacred Seven, Blood-C, The Marvel Anime Block, Supernatural, xxxHolic, S-Cry-ED alter, Mirai Nikki, Bakuman Season 2, Kami no Puzzle, Gundam AGE, Black Lagoon OAD, and Air Gear OAD, that that was a load of shit or the series has a lot to offer.
Then i saw the second promotional video and lost my shit.
(Watch on youtube for subs)
I haven't been this excited for an anime for a while.
Basic synopsis taken off various sites:
Guilty Crown’s story begins in 2029, when Japan turns into an anarchy following the outbreak of the “Apocalypse Virus”. An ultranational armed organization known as GHQ intervenes and subjugates the country, stripping it of its seat in the Commonwealth and leaving its people with only the perception of peace. Ten years later in 2039, high school student Ouma Shuu (Kaji Yuuki) tries to spend his days peacefully by distancing himself from society, but that all changes when he runs into an Internet songstress whom he admires, Yuzuriha Inori (Kayano Ai). Inori is a member of the “Undertakers”, an underground resistance group trying to liberate Japan, and part of a sub-17-year-old group led by Tsutsugami Gai (Nakamura Yuiichi). Shuu gets drawn into their fight because he possesses the “Power of Kings” in his right hand, which allows him to extract weapons from the “Void” within a person’s body.
As we can see, that void turns into a big fucking sword.
The animation is crisp, the voice acting is great, and the soundtrack......orgasmic. Imma be following this until it ends or it turns into some kind of convoluted fucking trainwreck (looking at you, sacred seven and Shakugan no Shana season 2, lets hope you redeem yourself during season 3)
Keep yourself posted here as i will regularly update here instead of tumblr, and the fact that IT STARTS OCTOBER 13, AKA SAME WEEK AS WALKING DEAD SEASON 2!!!

Guilty Crown has started. Hell today, episode 2 came out. IT IS AMAZING.
Basically through a total screw up, Shuu has gained the power of kings through a shattered void genome obtained from his favorite Idol (jpn singer) Inori, who works for Gai and the terrorist organization "The Funeral Parlor". The power of kings allow him to take out a weapon from the person's heart, and materialize it. Inori's weapon is a sword. A giant magical fucking sword that allows Shuu to fly. Terrorist leader Gai isn't happy due to the fact that that power was meant for him.
The funeral parlors fight the antibodies, who are a bunch of soliders sent into japan, now turned into districts (ala code geass) who exterminate the japanese people who are believed to be infected with the apocalypse virus. In fact, japan is completely reliant on the antibodies due to the fact that the virus is so wide spread although it has not been seen at all during the entire first 2 episodes.
Shuu has had numerous flashbacks as of late, as it seems like his memory is damaged, since he apparently can use the power of kings flawlessly.
At the end of episode 2, he turns down Gai's offer to spearhead the efforts of the funeral parlor, as Shuu always hated himself for not doing anything to question the authority of the antibodies, including the violent assault against Inori, which results in her being shot (grazed) and beaten. however, after participating in 2 battles, witnessing a kid getting shot in the head (not fully confirmed) along with his parents, and ACTUALLY WINNING THE fight (destroys an entire brigade of mechs), he decides that he has had enough action for a lifetime and turns down Gai's offer.
A period of time has passed (day, week, or month, since the last 2 episodes were a flashback) and he daydreams in class while suddenly Inori arrives as the new transfer student.
I cannot emphasize this enough. This is an amazing anime series.
Admittedly, it does rely on cliches and seems like bits of other animes are meshed in there. Code geass and eureka seven come to mind. But it relies on the good of those story plots. The meches, the character relationships, they are all fun but seriously taken, and the war they are fighting is very real as we have seen so far.
The pacing in episode 1 was a little bit inconsistant, but so was Shuu's day, so it was forgiveable, and episode 2 was very well done.
Lastly, the insert songs are amazingly done by Supercell's new vocalist, who is 15, years old.
Here is the official opening
and the insert opening in episode 1
enjoy i will keep posting every week hopefully about this series.

Episode 3 was meh. There was a plot dealing with some guy who was spying on Shuu and Inori during the last ep...and yeah....it was shitty. Hopefully next weeks ep is waaaay better.

As of the last episode, the plot finally got stabilized and the music and animation got a lot better. Plus he got a fucking gravity gun!

The mid series finale made me happy, sad, happy, sad, happy, sad, then happy again. It was well written, had a great build up, and made watching the last 12 episodes (some with bad writing) totally fucking worth it
And a plot twist so odd that members of 4chan have an issue talking about it.

Up to episode 18 now....and i gotta say this is an interesting trainwreck the writers have gotten themselves into.
Lemme start with Positives Positives Animation is sexy gorgous, even when things seem like the budget is failing, the designers did a hell of a job. The music is spot on awesome, with german and japanese pop mixed in for energy, while orchestra pieces give tension and relaxation. I bought the first OST. Like with actual monies. It was ear sex level of fun.
Ugh...and now negatives.... Negatives
Lets see. Up untill episode 12, the series went downhill, with some minor character development and the main characters having some really odd relationships that seemed rather uneven. It felt like it was building to something amazing. And it Did. Episode 12 is what I would consider a payoff for any anime series. The episode started off by answering any question possible, cleared up character relationships, had some badass fights, a surprise ending, and a nice start to a second half.....
And now we are in part 2. And its fucking ridiculous. After some important characters die, The main protagonist shuu is turning into a total dick. I mean sure we could have a charming asshole like lelouch or someone who does some evil things for justifiable reasons like Yukki from mirai nikki, but instead we got some asshat who tries to take over the world with his new found power, but does it for no reason...
Last episode, Shuu gets his arm cut off, that contains his powers. He first says "MY ARM" and you feel kinda sorry for him, cuz he looks like he is in a lot of pain, and just lost his powers and you think he begins to humble up and realize all the shit he has done is wrong, and he has lost so much.
And then he yells "MY POWER OF KINGS IS GONE" and you just gotta facepalm. I know the writers want you to feel sympathy, but he is just so...so....i dunno, stupid. He has some of the worst character traits ever. He is wimpy like shinji from the original evangelion, he is stupid like orihime (lots of idle uselessness when people actually die), and then he gets all arrogant and cocky like a one piece villian (buggy the clown) but has no talk to back up his shit........
He isn't evil and hasn't gone to that point where he deserves being isolated. He is just so mentally slow that I wanna just....feed him to animals.
Ugh, the ending of this series better be worth the shit that we are going through now. My favorite character died, my least favorite character caused my favorite character to die, and my second favorite character now is just reduced to a small supporting role/fanservice/comic relief, which is just a damn shame.
