So I have currently Volumes 21-33 and I'm getting the anime next payday. The reason for this is I've heard the beggining Dark Horse Translations were horrible. Some source on the internet told me to disregard them entirely, except when Dark Horse gets its act together around the late teens.
Is this true? I find it hard to believe after how great DH was at translating Gantz (minus Kaze accent) and the volumes of berserk I have. If it is, it suits me perfectly. Since the anime basically stops at the eclipse and thats where my Manga collection begins, I will have the complete series with no real setbacks right?

I never read the manga in a book, so I couldn't tell you. I've been using Mangafox.

I have 34 volumes. I've read 20-something of them (in order). They were fine. Cost me a shit-ton of money though. Like 170 or something. Ugh.

Here manga books are $12.50 a pop some even 15. And comeplete anime series cost something up to $60 too. Collecting is harmful to the weight of your wallet.
And We'll see maybe if the anime is crap. I never really fully went through it just bits and pieces and some spoilers after I watched berserk abridged.

It's not super terrible, but it definitely IS missing out on some awesome parts (Wyald Fight, comes to mind), and it does add some filler parts that pretty much just wastes time. But like I said, it's not terrible. Animation's a little meh but it's got the dark, gritty feel that you'd expect from Berserk. And the music is freaking orgasmic. But yeah, I'd go for the english manga version anyday, it really doesn't seem that bad. And the eclipse ends at volume 13-14, you said your collection starts at 21.....that means the anime doesn't end right as your collection starts, lol. Here manga books are $12.50 a pop some even 15. And comeplete anime series cost something up to $60 too. Collecting is harmful to the weight of your wallet. Fucking tell me about it. I just re-looked through my purchase history and it turns out it didn't actually cost me 170, the entire series cost me 295. Probably like 325 when including the two or three newer volumes, and maybe we can boost it up to a solid 340 with this newest volume I'm about to buy as we speak...volume 35. What the fuck.

What do you expect? The prices rise as more people scan em online. Personally i own all the gantz volumes, d.gray man volumes, a buncha the naruto ones, the first three volumes of berzerk (first editions too yay) and some bleach. Yeah, i am broke!

Wouldn't people scanning them online most likely lessen the demand for the volumes, since then only the people who truly love it would buy it, since they know what to expect, and eliminate the people who aren't really sure but buy it out of curiosity anyway? When the demand for them is lessened, that means the price is also lessened. Textbook economics.
Anyway, in my experience, the price hasn't really changed for most of the manga I have my eye on. Only special out of print manga cost a lot. Which would make sense since as the supply gets low without any change in the demand (the current fan-base), the price rises a fucking metric shit-ton.
Eden volumes 8 and 9....... =(, Akira.......blah.

The only Manga I actively Collect are Gantz, Berserk, and Gurren Lagann. I do plan on collecting Psyren and HOTD whenever they fucking release. But thats it.
lol I realize my collection isn't complete. I'm working my way down with berserk, I plan to buy volume 19 and 20 next. Then maybe 18 and 34 after that. It's weird I know but I was reading scans up until I decided to buy them and read the rest in book form.
