This is in response to Freya, kinda. An old PS2 game, I loved it. I think it's the best Square Enix game there is (Square Enix developed both Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy). It's also an action game with some decent fighting.
It was kind of Dynasty Warriors-esque on some levels, but you also could ride on a dragon at a certain point. Then there are also aerial levels. I remembered this game, though and was wondering if anyone else remembers what I consider to be one of my favorite PS2 games.

I didn't like it.

Why not? The aerial battles were awesome, and so was strafing above enemy formations on a dragon whilst dodging catapult-launched boulders and the like.

Aerial battles were the worst fucking part. The rest was okay. Soundtrack was meh, gameplay was decent, the story was fucking awesome.

I remember the aerial battles as being extremely easy and amusing. Riding the dragon in battle is fun as Hell when you're on that level that's a giant plain.
Also: I think Drakengard 2 was kinda shitty. Opinions?

I FREAKING LOVE DRAKENGARD! Okay, that's out of my system. Gameplay-wise, Drakengard had its ups and downs, to be sure, but the story was fantastic in how dark it was and how severely it subverted fantasy RPG tropes. I mean, a baby-eating psychopath and a child molester are members of your party, for crying out loud. Plus the game was great at trolling the player in unexpected ways, it had a great soundtrack, and it had a sequel called Nier that was so darn good that it alone would be enough to justify Drakengard's existence. Serious, look up both Drakengard and Nier on TVTropes if you're not too concerned about spoilers, or just play them (or watch/read a Let's Play) if you are. Drakengard, Drakengard 2 (which is mostly crap but has a few cool moments), and Nier have all been Let's Play'ed by The Dark Id. You can find his thoroughly awesome stuff here: lparchive.org/author/The%20Dark%20Id#resultsAlso, since Drakengard is a fountain of memes, it has to be said. Drakengard. Hates. Children.

DRAKENGARD WAS AMAZING I LOVED IT SO MUCH. NIER WAS FUCKING FUN AS HELL. I LOVED IT, THOUGH I LOVED DRAKENGARD SLIGHTLY MORE. SELLOUTBOY, YOU ARE AMAZING FOR PLAYING BOTH OF THESE GAMES AND KNOWING THIS. And Drakengard 2 was a big let-down.

"The Japanese version of the game featured several very adult oriented themes, and many characters had more than questionable sexual orientations and/or perversion. Leonard, in the Japanese version, is actually a paedophile, and Furiae feels sexual desire for her brother. Arioch, who has lost her womb from her pact and gone mad, enjoys killing children. While all of this isn't reflected in the actual game play, it is inside cut scenes and conversations between characters. Most of these were removed in the American version of the game, making certain cut scenes very difficult to understand"
Was going to get this game, but considering I don't know Japanese....fuck it. Not going to play some watered down pussy censored version. Unless, wikipedia's lying?

Wouldn't be surprised if it was. I remember references to not trusting Leonard around a little girl, or something like that and same with Arioch. Either way, the watered-down pussy version was still pretty fun.

As far as I could tell, all they did censorship-wise in the U.S. version was take out the overt (but not the subtle) references to Leonard's pedophilia and a certain other character's incest-related desires. The former isn't that big of a deal, but the latter slightly screws up the player's understanding of the plot, because without knowing what's going through that character's head, the character's subsequent actions seem pointless. But still, the game is very fucked up, even in the U.S. version, and some of the English voice acting is pretty great, especially that of the dragon. So it's still worth playing, in my opinion.
And thank you, UlrichAcheronNacht. I'm glad to hear from another fan of the series.
