Geez, when will people learn that you are totally fucked if you deal with Liam Neeson. Whether it be wolves, sith, terrorists, French Revolutionaries and police, and Greek gods, its gonna end badly. He might die in the process, but what happens to you is 10 times worse afterward.

its true, taken doesnt need a sequel but oh well, there's money involved right? Also lol, the thing actually makes sense. You guys might not know this but here in Albania in the northern city called Tropoja (where the mob guys from the 1st movie come) still respect very old laws which are unwritten called "Kanuni i Lek Dukagjinit" which means the Canon of Lek Dukagjini, the guy who 'wrote' them let's say. Some of these rules are that if you kill someone from another family, no matter what the cause, then someone from the victim's family has the right to avenge his lost kin by killing someone from the family of the killer. Obviously the guy who committed the crime is the first choice but there are many cases where someone else completely unrelated, but still from the family of the killer, dies. The only way to stay alive is to stay inside the house. If you are inside than the guy cannot kill you, but if you come out of your house than he will certainly kill you, if he abides by these rules. Only the women are exempt from this rules and in such cases all the men of the hous (husband, sons etc) stay inside for years while the women go and work.
This is obviously illegal but there is not much police there (although i said a city its a very reclused place surrounded by mountains and people still live by these rules. The police usually apprehends the culprit but since there is no direct threat, they cannot stop them. Also the guy who does the killing doesnt care if he goes in prison, he just wants to avenge his lost kin. These thing have been rarer and rarer in the recent year but just 5 years ago we still heard them on the news.

^ thanks for that tidbit ben, helps understand the whole motive of the villian of the movie. Its very understandable to want revenge I would know. But for the movie itself yeah taken was good on its own. But liam neeson exploded it with awesomeness so a sequal was imminant.
I got deeply involved in the plot mostly because I too have a daughter and you can guess how I see neeson as a hero and the guy bleeds mad respect. I'd want to do the same thing if i had the tools or even try if ib didn't.
