I took the review I posted on DnS.
Yes I'm reviewing a game, and as much as most of my reviews suck, unless I put 3 hours into them. This one is a half an hour effort at most.
No More Heroes tells the story of Travis Touchdown, an anime fan who lives in the fictional town of Santa Destroy, California. After an unexpected turn of events, Travis finds himself at the bottom of an Assassins' organization. Travis will have to prove himself worthy and defeat 10 other bloodthirsty killers - all with deep stories of their own - to make his way to the top of the assassins league. - stolen from the description at GF.
This game is basically Killer 7 style but good. You're a lightsaber wielding badass and you kill lots of peaple in the hope of being the assassin master of the world or something. The game was made for people like me who love over the top gore, characters saying fuck, shit and piss every other sentence and lots sexual jokes and a ton of originality. Travis likes anime, games, sex and porn. Like me. But instead he spills blood to get what he wants. Once I saw the intro to this game I knew I was going to love it.
Gameplay 8/10
Alright I'm not going to lie here. What you do is hit the a button over and over again BUT this doesn't get old I know but let me explain. After you get the right amount of damage on someone you get to finish them with a bloody decapitation swing with your wiimote. Which is awesome. It's like playing kill bill but better. You never get sick of the raining blood errr blood rain. Travis is also able to do professional wrestling moves on his enemies, which has you move the Wiimote and nunchuck in a differant fashion to pull the move off. These are always great to do and the motion controls, surprisingly, don't feel tacked on at all and tend to work really well.
The other side of the game is like a cell shaded GTA. Which is alright it isn't the main point of the game. You run around and do a variety of differant jobs to get enough money to fund your next assassin mission. That or check out the shop and buy new clothes for your character or check out the dojo and train a litle bit with your wrestling master.
Graphics 9/10
This game is really stylish the characters look mighty real mixed with a cell shade. Very colourful and alive. And the blood splurting is again very satisfying. I would have gave it a 10 but with few framerate issues I dropped it to a 9. The game looks great. A STONERS DREAM really. I suggest Mushrooms.
Sound 10/10
Every character in this game sounds perfect well from what I've seen so far. Travis sounds like a cool nerd basacally how he should be and the mysterous hot chick sounds sexy and teasy as well with a nice French accent. The soundtrack is composed by Masafumi Takada, who worked on the soundtrack to Killer7, God Hand, and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. I never played God hand but I did like some of the tracks he did for Brawl aswell. All in all great sounds. Especially the main theme for the game. And the sound before you load into a new area. Really gets you into the game.
Overall: 9/10
I would say this is a must buy game for the Wii. absolute buy for us DnSers for our love of anime and Violence and our need for original gameplay. This game was made for us. And our answer for another Mature game for the wii. The game offers a total of three different difficulty levels: sweet, mild, and bitter (or easy, medium, and hard). Im playing mild because I like the challenge and boy is it. This game isnt easy unless you play it that way. Im only #7 ranked assassin so Ive got alot of playing to do. Just thought Id let you guys know about this awesome game.
Pros:
game is hell of a lot of fun to play
performing finishing moves and wrestling moves always feels satisfying
game has amazing style
Very Mature game
Nice anime fighting feel.
Good controls.
Cons:
side jobs can, at times, become tedious
game suffers from framerate issues
underrated game
