Name: Sakimoto, Kotone Age: 24 Sex: F Race (Ethnicity): Japanese Height: 5'7" Weight: 135lbs Hair Color: Dark Brown Eye Color: Blue Language(s): Japanese Career: Waitress/Studying Actress Inventory: Brown Leather WWII Pilot Jacket, Antique Zippo, Pouch of Heroine w/ syringe, spoon, etc... One Strength: Willpower - Kotone has always done whatever she wanted. Even as a child, when she set her mind to it she accomplished it. That’s not to say her parents spoiled her, far from it they were quite strict. When she wanted a part in a high school play, she worked as hard as she could until she’d achieved it. Once she’d made up her mind about something almost no one could persuade her otherwise. One Weakness: Drug Addiction - Divorced already, still in her early twenties, Kotone had reached the lowest point in her life so far. They were easy to acquire since she already had friends who were users. At first the rush and excitement of the high made all her pain fade away. But even after she’d begun picking up the pieces of her life and setting to work acting again drugs remained a part of her life. Since then they’ve hindered the potential of a serious acting career, and strewn land mines everywhere else in her life too. But it wasn’t just about subsiding the pain, or the chemical ingredients beckoning her back, she wanted drugs because she enjoyed the transcendent relaxation and intense euphoria, and that they were out of control just made life more thrilling. All the way to it’s thrilling conclusion. Appearance: An attractive young woman with only a small amount of makeup wearing a leather jacket. Her eyes betray a sharp serious mind and she rarely smiles. Personality: Kotone is a kind and generous person who cares about others. She has a questioning nature and seeks the truth behind things rather than believing only what she wants to. Disciplined and determined, Kotone works hard to achieve the things in life she desires. When she sets her mind to something Kotone goes all out for it. Things other than what she's focused on may get neglected however. Background: Having a fairly normal childhood with two loving parents Kotone had a stable upbringing. After highschool she married young, which took an unfortunate turn for the worst. They had both been eager young students at theater school, but it turned out he was acting off stage too. After the divorce Kotone felt crushed and began using drugs. At first it was just to get through the stress and depression, but then the desire for the rush and the high became paramount. Cause of Death: Abducted by drug dealers and murdered by induced overdose of heroine. Region or place where your Gantzer died (must be a region in the RP): Osaka Death in Gantz: to be filled by the mod Note: Hi, hope this is alright!

Not that I'm a mod or anything, but I thought I'd mention a couple of things that are "off" about your character sheet.
First off, drug addiction is a pretty vague term. Some would prefer to know what drug you may be referring to. Judging by your character's photo, I'm gonna assume it's smoking and run with it.
Being addicted to smoking holds no value as a weakness in Gantz, because when your character arrives in Gantz all damage done to your body from smoking will be healed, and this will continue to happen if you go on to survive in Gantz. That makes smoking, or any other drug addiction, pretty much null in gantz unless its causes you to hallucinate in a dangerous enviornment.
I'd also like to add that your strength and weakness conflict with one another. Having willpower encourages smokers to quit rather than going on in denial about being addicted and continuing to smoke. Furthermore, I also find it hard to say that you have a strong will if you're addicted to something that harms your body. That strong will of yours would be enough to encourage you to go without smoking until you quit.
Now I'm not saying it's easy to quit smoking, but willpower does play a big factor, and the fact that your character has that as a strength, suggests that she would be able overcome things such as smoking or many other trials or tribulations with sheer will.
So simply put, she either isn't strong willed or isn't addicted to smoking.
Edit: Just saw cause of death...nah there's no strong will in this one that I can clearly see.

lol no it's not smoking, I was thinking more along the lines of Heroine. Also, I was thinking in terms of a role playing weakness character-wise. Does it have to be something that'll hinder my character during missions? Finally, are you saying people with strong willpower can't be addicted to drugs?
I see another character who's weakness is she's unhappy...

lol no it's not smoking, I was thinking more along the lines of Heroine. Yeah lol, I got that from your char's death that I just happened to look at after I already posted in response to her strength and weakness. I guess I just forgot to correct myself, but if anything, finding out she was a heroine-addict rather than a smoker only reinforces the fact that she can't consider herself willful. She's a damn heroine addict for crying out loud. And to be quite frank, I think the only thing she'd be willful about accomplishing is goin out to buy more heroine. Also, I was thinking in terms of a role playing weakness character-wise. Does it have to be something that'll hinder my character during missions? Finally, are you saying people with strong willpower can't be addicted to drugs? Yes, strengths and weaknesses make or break your character when roleplaying. They make your character come to life and react for you rather than you reacting for them. With strengths and weaknesses the character writes itself when you roleplay and it allows mods to decide the successfullness of your attempted actions. And yes, I don't see how someone addicted to anything harmful can be considered strong-willed. If anything you would have to elaborate on what it is that makes her strong willed to something else if she's an addict. A suggestion in my opinion would be her having a one-tracked mind like you mentioned here... Or atleast elaborate on what she's achieved, because so far it seems as if her life is in shambles and she's using heroine as a cruch since she isn't strong enough to cope with what happened. I see another character who's weakness is she's unhappy... Like I said bro, I'm not a mod on here, but I do have experience in modding and roleplaying. Your character just happened to catch my attention and wanted I to give you some constructive criticism. It's up to you whether or not you'd like to make use of it to improve your character. I won't force you.

I wasn't expecting such a high level of scrutiny considering the other characters on here and the level of writing in the RP.
I'm just going to stand my ground on the whole willpower vs drug addiction oppinion. I think a person with a high level of skill or natural ability in anything can still fail at it. I also never said anything about her considering herself willful, just that she is willful. And by the way, addiction or no she does the drugs willingly.
A drug addiction CAN break a character, it breaks people every day in real life.
Well, going to acting school for starters. And yeah, drugs would be an emotional crutch at least at first. Her life pretty much was in shambles and then it ended... tragically...
Ah, well thank you. I was feeling pretty defensive. I don't mind improving my character for sure, but I still disagree about the willpower.

If you put it that way I wouldn't necessarilly be opposed to her being willful, because after close examination of the definition, it's obvious that being willful can also be detrimental. (I was never aware of that to be honest, lol)
However, in order to have willpower you have to have self-control and her character doesn't seem to have it. She instead seems more willful than anything, because she has a stubborn persistence in doing in what she wishes. Take her addiction to drugs for example, she does them willingly despite the harm it does to her.
I agree, but something like a drug addiction holds no value in gantz, because an addiction like that will be healed opposed to a sex addiction. Drugs would no longer have a hold on your character, because the addictive chemicals would no longer be inside of her whenever she re-enters Gantz. It's crazy to think about, but it's the truth according to how the physics are portrayed in the series.
The point of the strengths and weaknesses is to balance your character during the roleplay. The strength and weakness should always be affecting your character regardless of whether or not it's beneficial. That's why I'm so against characters having drug addictions, because they end up being non-existent in Gantz.
Edit: I also sent you a PM explaining why I'm so adamant about this.

The only area she doesn't seem to have self-control in is the drug addiction.
There is more to her addiction than just the chemical side. Being healed by Gantz would be like coming out of rehab, and then she'd go right back to the drugs again... Plus if she shoots up right before a mission, she'd be screwed.

I actually like this character.
And two things:
One, chemical addiction matters not. Some people take drugs for the rush of it (which it was stated that that is why Kotone does it), in which case, the drug will still have a hold. Unless Gantz wiped her memory of all those trips to rainbow-land as well, she'll still remember. And that's where the main grip lies.
Two: You can certainly get addicted to drugs and still have strong willpower. You do not need self-control to have willpower. Willpower is the strength to act OR not act in pursuit of a goal. It doesn't have to be both. In fact, if her goal is to get high on life then doing drugs despite the fact that it may hurt her body shows willpower.
The only thing I didn't fully like about this character was her weight for some reason. I'd prefer if it were more like 150 or something. I dunno why though, lol.
Ronnie, you should go around and judge other characters as well. Old and new.

Nah bro she'd have to shoot up when she's already teleported out to the mission, because gantz would heal her once again before teleporting her out. Think of it as someone getting their arm cut off during mission briefings and then being teleported out by Gantz. They'd have their arm back so they can hunt aliens with two arms just like everyone else.

Well look what happened to other characters when they shot up and smoked weed on a mission, they all died.
You like a bit more meat on the bones? Haha, well I could go like 135 or something?

Well look what happened to other characters when they shot up and smoked weed on a mission, they all died. It's true, it can make or break a character during a mission. I think Ronnie agrees. But Ronnie was just commenting upon how you would have to do it during a mission, rather than before it. You like a bit more meat on the bones? Haha, well I could go like 135 or something? Actually, that's not it. I don't know, something about this character specifically. Anyway, we have come to an accord!

Well the drug addiction is not her center point, she doesn't revovle around it. It's just there and I figure we'll see how things play out in the RP. I hope she doesn't get killed shooting up on a mission, but you never know... She could certainly die a hundred other ways. I would try and role play the drug addiction negatively affecting my character in several ways.

lol I find it crazy how you posted 1 minute before me Fayyra, but once again I appreciate your 3rd opinion as always. I'm not sure if that's an invitation or you simply telling me not to single anyone out. (I'm not sure if the latter is the case, but words can be taken out of context) But I call it as I see it. If your character catches my eye or you ask me for my opinion, I'll comment on it and encourage you to improve it if necessary. If I planned on doing this for everyone I would've applied for a mod position here or posted a thread offering that to people. I just don't have the time, and I have enough on my plate as it is. I have to admit though that the strength and weakness of this character has really made think a lot about Gantz's physics as well as what I've been known to consider a balanced strength and weakness. Anyways, after taking a look at what you fixed in your template, I noticed that now your strength and weakness is more of a stalemate now than anything lol. At first your describing someone with a strong force of will that wants to succeed in life, but then your immediately having her take two steps back by having this addiction that will probably squash whatever goals she may have. This is complicating because this can actually happen to the best of us in real life, and your getting close, but your strength and weakness is still missing something. I think you need to elaborate on how your strength and weakness will effect others around you, whether it be positive or negative. I also find this to be pretty amusing, because this debate outright encourages an updated template that asks you to describe more about your strengths and weaknesses. (e.g. here's a template I use to have roleplayers use for my project. lol, shameless plug. Simply scroll down to "one strength" and "one weakness".) Based on her background, I'd say it's a big factor in her life, because she uses it as a crutch. But maybe I'm just misunderstanding her character, or maybe that's just the my personal opinion based on the way you introduced her in your template. wait...what? Fayyra if your high on life, you don't do drugs, because what you gain out of life is more satisfying. So if her goal is to do one thing, and she takes a step in the opposite direction of her goal, from what I understand that wouldn't label her as a having willpower. It'd label her as being an under-achiever.

Well, the "She's going to quit... soon..." text wasn't meant to reflect her attitude, it was just supposed to be funny, but since it was being percieved that way I changed it to something more appropriate. I'm not sure why them being statements is funny though...
And what's wrong with that? Most people do fail to achieve their dreams in life, does that mean they're weak? I don't think so.
Unless drugs are a part of life. Actually, usually when people say they get high on life it's in response to, do they do drugs? As a "no". So yeah, usually if you get high on life it means you don't do drugs. Was it a typo or was Fayyra trying to be ironic?

I'm not sure why them being statements is funny though... lol no a stalemate! In chess when the game ends in a draw it is called a stalemate, because neither side has an advantage over the other. So basically I'm applying that term to your character's strengths and weaknesses. You balanced them in comparison to one another, and you've neglected to make sense when applied to your character. That's why I suggested that you should elaborate on them in the way I suggested utilizing the method in the template for the project I use to mod. But now I see that that's not going to do much to solve the real issue at hand. Someone with strong willpower can't be a drug addict. They just don't work together. And what's wrong with that? Most people do fail to achieve their dreams in life, does that mean they're weak? I don't think so. Nah, I'm just saying that someone with such strong willpower shouldn't fall victim to heroine in such a vague way. That's why I'm encouraging you to elaborate, because it doesn't make sense to me and I'm curious. (no sarcasm intended) I want to know what her ex did to her that was so bad, because simply just having him leave her doesn't give her much of a motive to say, "fuck my strength, bring on the heroine!" I also would like to see what her goal was, because I highly doubt someone with strong willpower would find heroine more desirable than the goal they plan to achieve. Thus, that proves my point when I say that the strength and weakness can't be used on a single character. To accept such a thing would be very contradicting. Unless drugs are a part of life. Actually, usually when people say they get high on life it's in response to, do they do drugs? As a "no". So yeah, usually if you get high on life it means you don't do drugs. Was it a typo or was Fayyra trying to be ironic? Dude, I have no idea. That shit sounded weird.
