One Strength:
Memorization, of everything but faces, is actually very common to Kumiko. A specific pattern, after she sees it, can be memorized. Each memorized pattern can be told to others, and tactics used by various fighters can be passed through from her sight. She cannot associate names, so instead labels the ‘users’ of the original tactics as ‘Originaru-sama,’ and many can take this role. This memorization allowed her to go through High School and the College she had to memorize patterns in words, math, and other subjects while also excelling in sewing. She has since then learned also all she can from this process and wants to know more in how to use it, making her a valuable asset in regards to communication.
One Weakness:
Because of the many faces and the only people who had been consistent were her grandmother and her own, she cannot connect people’s face to names. Every ally could be a potential enemy in sheep's clothing to her. For this fact, she rarely ever associates names to faces, but instead names to individual 'suits,' while in Gantz.
In battle, this weakness very disconcerting because if she falls into a trap, she will not know it until the real person comes into the line of sight. On top of this, it makes it harder for her to recognize the target given.
Appearance:
Standing only at 5’5”, Kumi looks like a shy school girl. Her hair is black, braided with small bows. These bows are a variety of colors, sometimes red, pink or purple. (Though this style makes her easier to spot on the street.) She is very curvy, and usually wears things that tone such curves on her body down. Consistently wears a pair of Capri pants and a vest/long-sleeved shirt combo or Ao Dai, from her grandmother, when not sporting her own designs.
Personality:
Kumiko naturally acts very rigid and cold, preferring not to get too close to people because of her past. However, she can be very friendly if discussing something that she has any interest in.
Kumiko’s natural reaction to people who have no regard for their lives is with disgust, as her passion to return to life makes her want to live, even though the situation is bad.
Another part of Kumiko’s personality is that she is very determined when it comes down to everything she does – from finishing her latest piece to scoring as high as she can in her college classes.
She can be very spiteful and vengeful on those who have wronged her, and will tell them so. Discord is very bad to her, since she has seen it a lot, but she can be a main cause of it. She can be seen as too much of a child or an adult while handling the spite, vengeance and discord – it swings either way due to the little involvement of her parents.
Being treated like a child enrages her, as she has determined to make her own way and show herself to be better than anyone ever assumed.
Her strong will in such a situation makes her a little dull at points, since she will fight her side until proven otherwise by someone else. Once she has been, however, she respects the person and will converse more often than not with said person directly instead of making herself in the background to them.
Background:
Kumiko’s parents were young when they had her. As a result, they relied heavily on Kumiko’s grandmother, a full Vietnamese for five full years of Kumiko’s life as they slaved away. While Kumiko learned both Vietnamese and Japanese, it did not progress quickly. Her grandmother could not stop her parents from ‘raising’ her far away, leaving her often alone with out others. Her grandmother passed away and the fact was hidden from her. So, her parents hired more and more maids or helpers to give her help.
Kumiko was a young, but spoiled, child. Her parents worked for high-end firms and rarely did come home. So to fill in the gap, she was given many different kits, and was taught how to sew by the ‘finest’ her parents could afford. She was often handed nice materials to practice, and began to use these skills while in High School to make clothes for herself. She kept up nice enough grades to get into college, but decided to continue on with her designs and would begin to sell them in Osaka and Shinjuku. She was a rather strange find, and would visit Shinjuku often for the crowds of unique designers. Despite all of the animosity towards her uppity attitude and her rich family she continued selling her clothes and modeling in Shinjuku.
Unfortunately, as is human nature, she was lynched by other designers for her ‘nice clothes’ at the station in Osaka that would head to and from Shinjuku.
